REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA — Director-General of Guidance of the Islamic Society, Kamaruddin Amin, together with Baznas Secretary Muchlis Hanafi took 10 trucks of humanitarian aid from the Indonesian community and BAZNAS partners to Gaza, Palestine. The release was made through the office of the NGO Misr Al Khair to Gaza, in Egypt.

“We have just released about 10 trucks of aid from Indonesians through BAZNAS and the Amil Zakat Institute, with the intermediary of one of our partners, the NGO Misr Al Khair in Egypt. May the delivery process go smoothly,” Kamaruddin said in Egypt, quoted from the official website of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs on Wednesday (20/12/2023).

Kamaruddin, who is also the commissioner of BAZNAS Ex-Officio, said that this humanitarian aid is expected to ease the burden on Gaza and Palestinian society as a whole.

“Hopefully this aid can alleviate the suffering of the people of Gaza in particular and the Palestinians in general,” he said.

According to Kamaruddin, humanitarian assistance from Indonesians through BAZNAS is focused on emergency needs. The aid includes medicines, basic food, and other emergency necessities needed by the victims of the conflict.

“This assistance is focused on emergencies, including treatment needs and consumption needs in refugees,” he explained.

Earlier, Kamaruddin had invited Indonesians to distribute humanitarian aid through BAZNAS, which has a clear partner in the distribution of humanitarian funds. Especially in the security situation in Palestine, he hopes that Indonesians can rely on BAZNAS and LAZ as BAZNAS partners who already have experience in distributing humanitarian funds in Egypt.

“Together with the NGO Misr Al Khair, BAZNAS also cooperates with a number of Bait Zakat NGOs and the Egyptian Red Crescent (Hilal Ahmar Egypt),” he added.

The release of humanitarian aid marks Indonesia's commitment to provide support and assistance to communities in need, especially in areas affected by conflict and humanitarian crises.
