REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- The Quran in Surah Jonah Verse 90 and its interpretation tells that Pharaoh pursued the Prophet Moses. But Pharaoh drowned in the sea at the end of the sea when the Prophet Moses and his followers left Egypt.

It is explained that when he was about to drown, Pharaoh declared himself to be faithful to God and His Messenger. However, the interpretation of this verse explains the evil of the Pharaoh very late.

And We saved the Children of Israel across the sea, and Pharaoh and his armies followed them, to oppress and oppress (them). So when Pharaoh was about to drown he said, “I believe that there is no god but the God that the Children of Israel believe in, and I am among the Muslims. (QS Dolphin: 90)

The Ministry of Religion's interpretation explains in this verse that God tells about the departure of the Children of Israel from Egypt. The prophet Moses asked Pharaoh that he free the Israelites in Egypt from the shackles of slavery, and then allow them to return to Palestine, to practice their religion freely. But Pharaoh refused the request.

Then Moses and his people fled from Egypt. Pharaoh and his army then pursued them. Pharaoh's party and his army almost caught up with the Prophet Moses and his people when they were about to cross the sea.

The Israelites were terrified if they were caught by Pharaoh's army, and Moses reassured his entourage by assuring them that they would witness the destruction of their enemies.

So the Lord revealed to Moses that he would strike his rod into the sea. And when the sea was divided, Moses entered and his people walked in its dry crevices until they arrived safely across the sea.

Pharaoh and his army followed the same path but when they arrived in the middle of the journey, the Prophet Moses stretched out his hand towards the sea, and the sea returned as it had been before.

Pharaoh drowned being swallowed by the waves with his army. When he felt he was going to die drowning, he declared his faith and Islam. He expressed faith in the Lord whom the Children of Israel believed.

The statement of faith in Allah and the Prophet Moses was pronounced Pharaoh with the phrase: “I belong to the Muslims.”

The Islamic confession contains faith in Allah and His Messenger, but this statement of faith is very late because it was stated at a time when he was almost drowning and no one could help him. Such statements are not accepted by God.

Allah said: So when they saw Our punishment, they said: “We believe only in Allah and we disbelieve in the prayers with which we have made communion with Allah. “Their faith, when they have seen Our punishment, is of no use to them. That is what Allah has done to His servants. And then the infidels were lost. (QS Ghafir: 84-85)
