REPUBLICA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- Chairman of the Graduate Program in Middle Eastern and Islamic Studies (KTTI) University of Indonesia (UI) Yon Machmudi said what might hinder the realization of peace in Palestine. Among these is the disuniformity of views in looking at the Palestinian issue.

“So if we go back to the root of the problem is colonization, occupation, there are colonized states and occupiers, and there are colonized territories,” Yon told Republika after the Peacemaker Forum 2023 Talkshow of Palestinian Solidarity Month (BSP) 2023 in the framework of the International Solidarity Day for Palestine at the University of Indonesia (UI) Salemba Campus, Wednesday (29/11/2023)

Yon said the simple way to resolve the conflict in Palestine is that the occupier must get out of the colonized territory in order for the territory to become a peaceful territory. In order for the colonized state to be independent, give independence to the Palestinians so that there is no more conflict between them.

He added that give independence to the Palestinians to be able to have sovereign governing their country. But if there is still intervention on one territory (Palestine) it will inevitably lead to constant conflict.

“So it is hoped that with the current momentum when the world opens its eyes to see the damage and the number of victims that reaches about 15,000 to 17,000, mostly civilians and children (who are victims), then the movement to grant independence to Palestine will grow stronger, it will be able to support,” Yon said.

Yon added that U.S. President Joe Biden, Britain, and France have already given the green light, China and Russia as well. Therefore, if the great countries are committed, the realization of independence that is indeed sovereign over their territory can be achieved.
