Abdullah bin Umar was a friend of the Prophet Muhammad who was famous for being extra careful in narrating the hadith of the Prophet Muhammad. He does not want to add and subtract it, even one letter.

Abdullah bin Umar was also very careful in issuing legal fatwas. Therefore, he did not do ijtihad.

In the era of Caliph Uthman bin Affan, Abdullah bin Umar was once offered to serve as a judge. But Abdullah bin Umar rejected the caliph's offer.

Abdullah bin Umar said judges can be grouped into three categories. First, a judge who decides a case without knowledge, then his place in hell.

Secondly, the judge who decides the case on the basis of lust, then he is in hell. Thirdly, the judge who decides the case by ijtihad, then he is on the sidelines (kafaf), gets no sin and reward. Hearing this, Caliph Uthman bin Affan accepted Abdullah bin Umar's reason for refusing the post of judge.

It is based on the book The Great Figures of Islam Throughout History written by Shaykh Muhammad Sa'id Mursi and translated by Khoirul Amru Harahap Lc and Achmad Faozan Lc and republished in Pustaka Al-Kautsar, 2007.

It is said that Abdullah ibn Umar went on a pilgrimage from Makkah to Medina with his father, Umar ibn Al-Khathab.

In the Badar war, Abdullah bin Umar followed his father to fight in the path of Allah SWT. But the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) advised him to go home, because he was 13 years old at the time.

Abdullah ibn Umar narrated 2,630 hadiths from the Prophet Muhammad. Among them, the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said: “Allah still accepts the repentance of a servant as long as his life has not reached the throat. (H.R. At-Tirmidzi)

Abdullah bin Umar died in 73 Hijri at the age of 85. He was the last companion to die in Makkah.
