Indonesia SOE Minister Praise BUMN for Reforming Environment Policy

Eight of the nine CSR Republika Award winners 2023 are state-owned enterprises.

REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- Environmental sustainability is one of the priorities of Indonesia State-Owned Enterprises or SOE (BUMN). The Chief, Minister Erick Thohir perform major changes in the role of BUMN towards environmental issues.

Erick overhauled BUMN's social and environmental responsibility program (TJSL), which previously targeted various sectors. Throughout this year, the Ministry of SOE has sharpened the program Bakti BUMN or Social and Environmental Responsibility (TJSL) by focusing on three areas, namely education, the environment, and the development of Micro and Small Enterprises (UMK).

Transformations in the field are carried out with the aim of optimizing program impact, governance, technology, increased collaboration, and also increased employee engagement.

“This TJSL program should be able to have a positive impact for society and state-owned enterprises, besides sustainability, it is also important,” Erick said, not long ago.

Erick said that in the field of the environment, there are three main programs, namely first, Tree Planting throughout Indonesia. As many as 4.6 million trees have been planted. Another environmental program is Integrated Waste Management mainly in five DPSP areas and the Provision of Clean Water Facilities in the lagging areas, it has reached 102 location points.

This program is a form of SOE concern for clean climate sustainability, development of public health levels, and opportunities for increasing the economic value of waste processing. Erick reiterated the SOE Ministry's commitment to sustainable development. Erick has transformed TJSL SOE with a focus on impact, improved governance, technology utilization, increased collaboration, and also increased employee engagement.

“Not only does it have a positive impact for people and state-owned enterprises, but sustainability is important so that in the fields of education, the environment, and MSMEs the whole Indonesian society benefits in the long term,” Erick said.

Erick's reform is in line with Republika's commitment to encouraged sustainable business in Indonesia. Eight of the nine companies winning Anugerah CSR Republika 2023, held on Thursday (26/10/2023), are state-owned enterprises. The award-winning winners have highly beneficial CSR programs in a number of sectors such as Pertamina, Adaro Indonesia, Bank Rakyat Indonesia, Bank Tabungan Negara, PLN, Bukit Asam (PTBA), Bank Negara Indonesia, Telkom, and Bank Mandiri.
