REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- Coordinating Minister for Human Development and Culture Muhadjir Effendy said that the role of students as a pressure group is very important in supervising the flow of power in the government. He insists that students have no interest in matters of power, but take sides and defend the interests of the people.
“Students are pressure groups. He has no interests, but his interests are partiality to the people. If asked who is the person who most defends the people without interests, it is a student,” he said in a broadcast in Jakarta quoted Thursday (26/10/2023).
According to Muhadjir, students as a pressure group should have broad insight, understand the problems people perceive, and understand the issues in government. Especially, all things related to the interests of the people.
“You are in a pressure group that needs to have a fairly complete understanding of the situation and keep updating developments. Don't just study on the bench,” Muhadjir said in the event 'Advanced Student Management Skills Exercises (LKMM-TL) held by the Student Executive of Brawijaya University, Malang City.
Muhadjir said students should maintain their status as a repressive group and continue to fight for the people. He also called for students to remain a pressure group and not to rush into an interest group.
Therefore, Muhadjir is committed to providing opportunities for students to continue to work, voice, and collaborate in terms of leadership and voice the interests of the people. He believes that if this can be done, today's students will be great leaders in the future.
“I am one of those people who have a great commitment to student children to provide a large space to be able to take on that role. It remains only to be given an opportunity, a great opportunity for you to be in the elite rulling,” said the former rector of the University of Muhammadiyah Malang (UMM).
