Indonesia drop to ninth position in Asian Para Games 2022

REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- The Indonesian contingent dropped back to ninth place in the standings at the Asian Para Games 2022 Hangzhou, until Wednesday (25/10/2023) evening.

Despite being able to add to its medal gains, Indonesia had to drop one rank after briefly reached in eighth place.

Indonesia was overtaken by Malaysia who were able to add to the medal coffers. Merah Putih shifted to ninth place after losing one silver medal to Malaysia until 21:00 pm. Now, Indonesia have collected a total of 33 medals consisting of seven gold, 10 silver and 16 bronze.

On Wednesday, Indonesia added four gold medals, five silver medals and eight bronze medals. A total of four of the latest gold pieces were donated by the sports branch of Para athletics through Saptoyogo Purnomo in the 400-meter running number T37. This is the second gold Saptoyogo has won at the 2022 Asian Para Games.

In the sport of blind judo, Roma Siska Tampubolon also made a surprise by grabbing gold at the number above 70 kg classification J1. The unseeded Siska performed well against four judokas from other countries. As a result, Siska was able to come out victorious in the four matches.

The other gold came from the lawn-bowls branch of the sport. Kacung, who competed in the men's singles number B2, managed to defeat Malaysian athlete Muhamad Ayub. In fact, Kacung was initially only targeted for bronze.

The gold len surprise was contributed by Felix Ardi Yudha of the Boccia sports branch in the Men's Individual number BC2.

In addition to the four golds, on this day the Indonesian contingent also added five silvers and eight bronzes from the sports of Para table tennis, lawn-bowls, Para bike racing, Para athletics, and Para archery.

Indonesia's contingent was reinforced by 130 athletes to compete at the 2022 Asian Para Games. They are on target to take home 19 gold, 23 silver, and 23 bronze medals, and are expected to finish in the top 10 in the final standings.
