REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA — The Greater Jakarta Police (Polda Metro Jaya) has scheduled the summons of the Chairman of the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) Firli Bahuri on Friday (20/10/2023) today. The KPK chairman will be investigated over the alleged extortion case perpetrated by the KPK leadership against former agriculture minister Syahrul Yasin Limpo (SYL).
“The only inspection agenda is the inspection of the Chairman of KPK RI on Friday, October 20, 2023 in the inspection room of Subdit Tipidkor Ditreskrimsus Polda Metro Jaya,” said Director of Special Criminal Reserse (Dirkrimsus) of Polda Metro Jaya, Kombes Ade Safri Simanjuntak to the media on Friday (20/10/2023).
However, Ade Safri said that it had not yet received confirmation from Firli Bahuri whether the person concerned was confirmed to be present or not. He only confirmed that it had sent a letter of summons for information against Firli Bahuri. “It hasn't (confirmed attendance),” Ade Safri said.
According to Ade Safri, the head of the anti-corruption agency was summoned in his capacity as a witness to the case of alleged extortion of the KPK leadership when investigating the case of alleged corruption in the Ministry of Agriculture (Kementan) in 2021. In this case, investigators have also examined dozens of witnesses, one of them an aide to Firli Bahuri himself named Kevin Egananta.
The former KPK employees who belong to IM57 Institute insists that Firli must resign regarding the extortion case. “Firli Bahuri must resign in order to undergo the investigation process of alleged SYL extortion in Polda Metro Jaya,” IM57 Institute Chairman Mochamad Praswad Nugraha told Republika on Thursday (19/20/2023).
Firli's retreat according to Praswad was a logical consequence of preserving the credibility of the KPK agency. Because, KPK is currently investigating alleged corruption offences committed by SYL. “This is in accordance with Article 32 paragraph 2 of the KPK Law if the KPK leadership becomes a suspect, it will automatically be inactive,” Praswad said.
Praswad urged Firli Bahuri to obey the legal process in force. Firli is required to attend the screening as a form of respect for law enforcement in Indonesia. “Firli Bahuri must attend the inspection at Metro Jaya Police,” Praswad said.
He stressed that Firli had no privilege to avoid the examination. “As an ordinary law-abiding citizen, there is no privilege for him, in accordance with the principle of equality before the law,” Praswad said.
Furthermore, Praswad encouraged Metro Jaya Police to immediately announce the suspect of extortion case against SYL. The aim is to create legal certainty for all parties and to prove the credibility of the Police as a law enforcement agency. “Let no stowaways make deals in the dark room in this SYL extortion case,” Praswad said.
Firli previously has explained that the meeting with SYL was held before the alleged corruption at the Ministry of Agriculture occurred. According to him, the meeting was held in March 2022.
In fact, said Firli, the meeting with Nasdem Party politicians was not held privately, but rather in a group and in an open place. "The meeting on the badminton court between me and the Minister of Agriculture at that time, Brother Syahrul Yasin Limpo, took place before that period, to be precise around March 2 2022. And that was in a crowd in an open area," said Firli.
