REPUBLICA.CO.ID, BEIJING - President Joko Widodo appreciated China's interest in investing in housing and healthcare in the Archipelago Capital (IKN) during a meeting with Chinese Premier Li Qiang in Beijing.
“I appreciate the design planning cooperation between the Archipelago Capital Authority and Shenzhen City, as well as China's private interest in the Archipelago Capital for housing and health,” Jokowi said at Diaoyutai State Guest House, Beijing, China, Tuesday (17/10/2023).
IKN has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the City of Shenzhen, which in the past 40 years has transformed from a small city to a metropolis, in the construction of Indonesia's new capital on Borneo Island.
“We also ask for His Holiness's support to encourage the acceleration of investment realization in the capital of the archipelago,” Jokowi added.
Jokowi also said he was happy to be able to meet Li Qiang again after they met at the ASEAN summit in September 2023.
“Once again, I appreciate the positive development of the comprehensive strategic partnership over the past 10 years, in which China became Indonesia's largest trading partner and China also became Indonesia's second largest investor,” Jokowi said.
Such strong cooperation, according to Jokowi, contributes to strengthening regional and international cooperation.
“Where appeasement and stability are the main issues,” he said.
During the meeting, Jokowi was accompanied by Foreign Minister Retno Marsudi, Cabinet Secretary Pramono Anung, Coordinating Minister for Maritime Affairs and Investment ad interim who is also SOE Minister Erick Thohir, and Trade Minister Zulkifli Hasan.
Accompanying Li Qiang were Vice Foreign Minister Ma Zhaoxu, Minister of Agriculture and Rural Affairs Tang Renjian, Vice Chairman of the National Development and Reform Commission Cong Liang, Ambassador of the Republic of Indonesia to China Lu Kang, Director of the Office of Prime Minister Kang Xuping, Director-General of the ASEAN Department of the Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs Li Jinsong, and Assistant Foreign Minister Nong Rong.
On September 6, 2023, Li Qiang has also piloted the Jakarta-Bandung Rapid Train (KCJB) together with Menko Marves Luhut Binsar Pandjaitan. Then on September 8, 2023, Li Qiang met Jokowi at the Presidential Palace, Jakarta.
Subsequently, on September 16, 2023, Li Qiang also met Vice President Ma'ruf Amin during his visit to Nanning, China to discuss investments in fast trains to electric cars.
