Jokowi off to China to Meets Xi Jinping

Jokowi will then continue his visit to Saudi Arabia.

REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) paid a working visit to two countries namely Beijing, China and Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. Jokowi took off from Soekarno Hatta International Airport on Monday (16/10/2023) morning.

“Today I and the delegation will make a working visit to Beijing, the PRC and Riyadh, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia,” Jokowi said in a statement.

In Beijing, Jokowi is scheduled to attend two events, on 17 and 18 October. Jokowi will make a bilateral visit and also meet with President Xi Jinping. In addition, Jokowi was also scheduled to attend the third Belt and Road Forum for International Cooperation.

“In addition to bilateral meetings with President Xi Jinping, I will also meet with PM Li Qiang and PRC Parliament Speaker Zhao Leji,” Jokowi said.

During the meeting, a number of priority issues with China will be discussed. Among them are increased Indonesian exports, increased investment, and food security development.

“Some of the priority issues that we will discuss with the PRC include increasing Indonesia's exports, increasing investment, and building food security,” he said.

After visiting China, Jokowi will then resume his state visit to Riyadh, Saudi Arabia on October 18. There, Jokowi will meet the Crown Prince and Prime Minister of Saudi Arabia, Mohammad Bin Salman or Prince MBS.

In addition, Jokowi will also chair the first ASEAN-GCC (Gulf Cooperation Council) summit. According to Jokowi, the meeting with the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia will also discuss a number of issues, including increased economic and investment cooperation, the guarantee of halal products, energy, and the establishment of a supreme coordination council.

It is planned that Jokowi and his limited entourage will arrive in Indonesia on October 21, 2023. “On October 21, InsyAllah I and a limited group will arrive in Indonesia,” he said.

On his overseas visit, Jokowi was accompanied by SOE Minister Erick Thohir, Trade Minister Zulkifli Hasan, and Cabinet Secretary Pramono Anung. Meanwhile, the officials removed were Vice President Ma'ruf Amin, Minister of State Secretary Pratikno, Army Commander Admiral Yudo Margono, and Police Chief General Listyo Sigit Prabowo.
