REPUBLIKA, TIMIKA PAPUA --- The joint military and police apparatus were deployed to Beoga District, Puncak Regency, Papua Province of Indonesia, to hunt down the Papua Armed Criminal Group (KKB) which shot dead a teacher named Oktovianus Rayo (42). The Papuan KKB also burned down three school buildings in the same area on Thursday (April, 8).
The Head of the Nemangkawi Public Relations Task Force, Kombes Iqbal Alqudussy, said the authorities did not remain silent about the acts of violence committed by the KKB. "The TNI and Police are continuing to hunt down the perpetrators," said Kombes Iqbal, Friday (April, 9).
Iqbal admitted the victim's body had been evacuated by the community together with a number of teachers from Julugoma Village to the capital city of Beoga District on foot as far as four kilometers on Thursday afternoon.
The plan to further evacuate the body of Oktovianus to Timika on Friday afternoon could not be carried out because the flight from Timika to Beoga and vice versa was constrained by bad weather conditions.
Kombes Iqbal confirmed the burning of the school buildings, namely SD Jambul, SMP Negeri 1 Beoga and SMA Negeri 1 Beoga as well as the teacher's house on Thursday evening at around 18.15 east Indonesia time was carried out by KKB led by Nau Waker aka Not So Waker who was a subordinate of the leadership KKB Guspi Waker.
The Waker group allegedly fled to Beoga because they were pressured by the TNI and Polri apparatus. In 2018 Guspi Waker gave orders to Nau Waker to shoot PT Freeport Indonesia's vehicle at Mile 69, Tembagapura District, using a steyr type weapon. Top Police Chief Officer Kompol I Nyoman Punia admitted the condition of the school building was completely level with the ground and left the rubble of the fire.
The former Deputy Deputy for Mimika Police strongly criticized the KKB action which had killed a teacher and burned the school building.
The Mimika Regency Toraja Family Association (IKT) hopes that the body of the late Oktovianus will be immediately evacuated to Timika. Timika Toraja community leader, Daud Bunga, who is also a member of the Mimika regional people's reprsentative council (DPRD), regrets the murder of Oktovianus, who daily works as a teacher in Puncak Regency.
"All Toraja residents deeply regreting this incident. Why are our citizens as state servants who work as a teacher being killed in such a cruel way," said Daud.
