REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- Prabowo Subianto and Puan Maharani have the opportunity to advance together in the 2024 Indonesian presidential election. Both Prabowo and Puan have a large base of support from the two political parties behind them, namely the Gerindra Party and the PDI-P.

Executive Director of the Institute for Democracy & Strategic Studies (Indo Strategic) A Khoirul Umam said the presidential candidate pair Prabowo Subianto-Puan Maharani had the opportunity to attend the presidential election (Pilpres) 2024. Because the two figures represent the two major parties in Indonesia .

The chance for Gerindra Party Chairperson Prabowo Subianto to come back forward in the 2024 Presidential Election can still occur. The electability of the defense minister is still high compared to other potential figures.

"In PDIP, Puan's name will be prioritized as Soekarno's breed. In addition, the experience of proposing Jokowi as president gave birth to an evaluation that even though he was a party officer, Teuku Umar's power could not be fully controlled," said Umam in his written statement, Tuesday.

In the PDIP and Gerindra Party there are other potential figures, such as Sandiaga Salahuddin Uno and Ganjar Prabowo. For Sandiaga, Prabowo's decision will block his chances.

For Ganjar, Umam saw that there was a tendency for the PDI-P to succeed Puan as Soekarno's breed and daughter of Megawati Sukarnoputri. However, he considered, Ganjar as a figure with a flexible, fluid character, and easy to build political communication.

If the Prabowo-Puan candidate pair is realized, PDIP and Gerindra will only need to seek support from political parties at the middle level, such as the Nasdem Party and the Prosperous Justice Party (PKS). This is because the Golkar Party and the National Awakening Party (PKB) have the opportunity to carry their cadres in the 2024 presidential election.

Gerindra Party Secretary General Ahmad Muzani considered the survey results showing Prabowo's declining electability among the younger generation as a portrait of current politics. However, he explained, the internal majority of his party still encouraged the defense minister to run for the presidential election.

"Gerindra wants Prabowo to move forward," said Muzani at Nusantara III Building, Parliament Complex, Jakarta, Tuesday (23/3).

This impulse comes based on data held by the Gerindra Party, showing that Prabowo still has potential in the 2024 Presidential Election. In addition, Prabowo's electability is still very high among the general public.
