REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, PURWAKARTA — Police has named two people as suspects in a road accident involving 21 vehicles on the Purbaleunyi section of the Bandung - Jakarta toll road in Purwakarta regency, West Java on last Monday (Sept 2). The two suspects are DH, a driver of truck with police number B 9763 UIT and SB, a driver of truck with police number B 9410 UIU. 

According to West Java Police spokesman, Sr. Comr. Trynoyudo Wisnu Andiko, the determination of suspect has through a series of stages. Started from processing the crime scene, investigation, and the examination of witnesses. 

“Therefore, we have named two suspects,” said Trunoyodo in a press conference in Purwakarta Police Headquarters on Wednesday (Sept 4). 

However, Trunoyudo said legal status of suspect DH has been released, because he has died. Meanwhile, suspect SB has been arrested and questioned by investigators from Purwakarta Police. The suspect was charged six years imprisonment, based on Article 310 Law No. 22/2009. 

“The suspect has proven negligent when operating his vehicle, resulting in other deaths, serious injuries, minor injuries, and material loss," Trunoyudo explained. 

The accident on the Cipularang toll road’s Purbaleunyi section started when a dump truck tipped on its side at KM-91. There were four vehicles waiting for the dump truck to be moved from the toll road.

However, suddenly the other truck lost control due to brake failure and crashed into the four awaiting vehicles. The 15 other vehicles behind the truck then crashed into each other and caused the first four to catch fire. At least there 21 vehicles involved in the accident and eight people were killed.
