REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- General Elections Commission (KPU) denied the statement that said 2019 election result has been determined secretly. 

The statement came from presidential candidate Prabowo Subianto, who also said he will refuse all decisions from the institution, related to election. 

According to KPU commissioner Ilham Saputra, witnesses from National Winning Agency (BPN) or Prabowo-Sandiaga pair success team were present when KPU announced the final result of 2019 election votes. Therefore, he stressed the statement was not true. 

"That's not true," said Ilham on Tuesday (May 21) afternoon. 

Ilham also asserted that nothing was weird with the announcement. He said the provisions of Law No. 7/2017 on Election said election result is announced maximum 35 days after election day. 

It means the latest period to announce election result is on May 22. However, the recapitulation of 34 provinces and abroad has been completed. 

"So we have finished this morning and also (the announcement was attended by witnesses from both candidate pairs and political parties, including BPN and Gerindra," Ilham explained. 

Earlier, Prabowo said the announcement of national recapitulation of 2019 election was weird. He assessed it was held not on the right time, also not as usual. 

"The announcement was made secretly in the morning when people still sleep," Prabowo said.
