Anies Baswedan congratulates Ahok over latter's release

Ahok has finished a jail term for blasphemy on Thursday (Jan 24).

REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- The Governor of the metropolitan City of Jakarta, Anies Baswedan, expressed congratulations on the release of former DKI Jakarta governor Basuki Tjahaja Purnama, or Ahok.  Ahok was released on Thursday after serving a one-year eight-month and 15-day detention period at Mako Brimob, Kelapa Dua, Depok, West Java.

"Congratulations on being reunited with your family. We, from the DKI Jakarta Provincial Government, have an obligation to facilitate every citizen in accordance with their rights," Anies stated in DKI Jakarta City Hall.

But he added that he had no plan to meet Ahok. Ahok was arrested in connection with a blasphemy case in Thousand Islands, prompting a reaction from Muslims.

Ahok left through the back door of Command Headquarter of mobile police (Mako Brimob) in Kelapa Dua, West Java, on Thursday. In a short statement, Ahok wanted no one else besides his family to pick him up.

Ahok did not want any masses to come to the Brimob Mako Detention Center, as it was feared that it would disrupt traffic order on Komjen M Yasin Road, Kelapa Dua, Depok. But traffic in the vicinity of Mako Brimob continues to experience traffic congestion.
