BNN seizes 1,500 kg of marijuana in Bogor and Cengkareng

Three suspects have been secured related to the seizure of 1,500 kg marijuana.

REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA - The National Narcotics Agency (BNN) and Directorate General of Customs and Excise (Bea Cukai) seized 1,500 kg of marijuana in Bogor in West Java Province and Soekarno Hatta Airport in Cengkareng, Banten Province on Wednesday (Jan 30). The BNN also secured three suspects behind the inclusion of the narcotics.

"Three perpetrators were secured along with evidence of drugs and non-drug evidences," said BNN Deputy Eradication, Inspector General Arman Depari in a written statement on Thursday (Jan 31).

According to Arman, the marijuana came from Aceh Province. It was taken to Jakarta surrounding areas via land and air routes. He said that BNN trailed trucks from Aceh to Bogor, West Java.

When the truck arrived in Bogor, BNN officers immediately secured one suspect and evidence. Marijuana was hidden in the bottom of the truck with a special compartment closed with an iron plate.

From further investigation, it was later revealed that there was also shipment of marijuana through the Soekarno-Hatta Airport Cargo. Two of the perpetrators were also secured at Soekarno-Hatta Airport.

"The total amount of evidence of marijuana we confiscated was estimated at 1,500 kg," he said.

According to the suspect's statement, the owner of the marijuana package was Parman, a prisoner in Kabon Waru Correctional Institution in Bandung, West Java. They were asked to bring and deliver marijuana on behalf of Parman.

Head of BNN Banten Province Brigadier General Police Tantan Sulistyana stated that currently his area was in a drug emergency. Banten is not only known for area of drug circulation, but also narcotics transit, crossing and production.

He said, during 2018 the Provincial BNN had revealed 16 cases of narcotics. Most cases were related to large quantities of production and circulation. Tangerang city and South Tangerang city were also known as distribution places.

Several major disclosures were carried out in Tangerang with evidence of 7 kilograms of shabu-shabu and 65 thousand ecstasy grains. While in South Tangerang about 335 kilograms of marijuana were also revealed.

In addition, the BNN had also revealed illegal drug production sites in Lebak Regency. Therefore, he said, Banten Province was said as a drug emergency. He said, in combating drug trafficking, there must be community participation.

"Community participation is needed to help and monitor. For example, in and out of pick up cars in housing must be suspected," he said.

Tantan added, BNN will also continue to improve supervision through cooperation with law enforcement. There were several vulnerable points for drug trafficking in Banten.

Moreover, there were currently many new modus.

"We must be aware of online process. Indeed, the amount was not much, but the modus was dangerous," he said.
