REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- Former Jakarta governor who is convicted of blasphemy Basuki Tjahaja Purnama (Ahok) plans to pursue the oil trade business and become a talk show host after being released from detention in January. Ahok's attorney, Teguh Samudera, confirmed through a text message received in Jakarta on Tuesday that the oil business plan had been planned for a long time.
"After being released, Pak Ahok is likely to pursue the oil trading business as discussed earlier," Samudera stated, adding that he was looking for offices around the HI Roundabout.
"The office should not be too big, but sufficient for activities," he noted.
Regarding the plan to host the talk show, Samudera admitted that his client would undergo a contract with one of the private television stations. Regarding the possibility of his client entering politics, Samudera revealed that he could confirm this. However, it also depended on the situation and conditions.
"Regarding politics, if needed for national interests and for the sake of nation and state, he will certainly obey and will not refuse to return to the political arena," he stated.
When asked about Ahok's marriage plans, Samudera noted that he was not willing to discuss about the matter.
"We will be informed about Mr. Ahok's wedding plan later, because his marriage concerns his privacy rights, and we do not want to go past his explanation," he added.
Previously, the Head of the Public Relations Division of the Police Headquarters Public Relations Division, Police Brigadier General Dedi Prasetyo, pointed out that there will not be special escorting for Ahok, who would be released after serving a prison term at Mako Brimob , Kelapa Dua Depok, West Java, on Thursday (Jan 24).
