REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- The Government and House of Representatives agreed to accelerate the ratification of the Draft Law on Elimination of Sexual Violence (RUU P-KS). Indonesian Ministry for Women's Empowerment and Child Protection Secretary Pribudiarta Nur Sitepu stated that realizing the ratification requires strong commitment and concrete steps from relevant stakeholders.

Sitepu remarked that the government, through the Ministry of Women's Empowerment and Child Protection, along with Commission VIII agreed that ratification of RUU P-KS could be carried out in 2019. A series of studies and discussions related to the RUU P-KS were held by the Ministry of Women's Empowerment and Child Protection.

The effort is a form of commitment of the Ministry of Women's Empowerment and Child Protection in eliminating all forms of violence faced by women and children.

"Indonesian women can remain safe when they no longer face various forms of violence, especially sexual violence," Sitepu noted in a statement received here on Tuesday.

Sitepu expected that the ratification of RUU P-KS will be the best solution to the problem of sexual violence and can protect the rights of women and children, who became victims of sexual violence.

"The process of recovery, truth, justice, recognition, and compensation for women and children, who become victims of sexual violence, is the state's obligation to meet," Sitepu added.
