REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAYAPURA -- Indonesian security forces have identified the Trans Papua road construction workers brutally killed by a group of armed Papuan rebels in Nduga District, Papua Province, on Dec 2, a military officer stated. The police and military units, deployed to the site of the murders, continued to search for the whereabouts of the workers to identify those found dead or alive, Lt. Col. Dax Sianturi, the spokesman of XVII/Cendrawasih regional military command, stated here on Friday.

Sianturi said, as of Friday at 05.00 am local time, the Indonesian military and police personnel have found 16 corpses of workers in the sub-districts of Yigi and Mbua, Nduga District. Nine of the bodies had been identified and evacuated to Timika, Mimika District, on Thursday.

The identified workers are Jepry Simaremare and Alpianus M, both employees of PT Istaka Karya, as well as Agustinus T, Carly Zatrino, Muh. Agus, Fais Syahputra, Yousafat, Aris Usi, and Yusran, all workers of PT Istaka Karya.

"The identification and autopsy processes are handled at the Charitas Hospital in Timika," he stated.

Meanwhile, of the 20 workers, who were found alive and survived the brutal killings of the armed Papuan terrorists, those working for PT Istaka Karya were identified as Marthinus Sampe, Jefriyanto, Ayub, and Jimmy Aritonang.

Other survivors are workers of PT Istaka Karya Johny Arung, Tarki, and Matheus Palinggi; a worker of Telkomsel's tower Awan Maulana; and construction workers Siman, Yulius, Yulman Mange, Nolpianus, Selfianus Mari, Makbul, Saleh, Simon Tandi, Batok, Mesran Arifin, and Dirro Rombe, as well as construction and health worker Jon Tandibua.

Along with these 20 survivors, four civilians, including an infant, were also rescued as part of the evacuation efforts of the security personnel by deploying a helicopter and C-130 aircraft from Nduga and Wamena to Timika.

The rescued are identified as Asem Kogoya, Endinus Tabuni, Krisna Tabuni, and Sargi Lokbere, all of whom are adults. Thus, 24 civilians survived the brutal attacks of the armed Papuan terrorists.

According to Sianturi, the security personnel continued to update information on the victims, including the workers of PT Istaka Karya. On the day the shootings occurred, 28 workers of PT Istaka Karya were on the ground.

Seven of them survived the brutal killings. Nine others had been confirmed dead, while seven workers, who also died, could not as yet be identified, and five other workers were still missing, he noted.

The armed rebels also killed a soldier named Handoko and injured two other security personnel Sugeng and Wahyu, he added.
