REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- Indonesia's inflation rate edged up to 0.27 percent in November 2018. In previous years, the November inflation rate was usually higher as the year-end approaches.

"The cause was air ticket hike, which contributed 0.05 percent to the inflation due to many year-end activities," BPS Chief Suhariyanto stated in a press conference here on Monday.

The other factors contributing to the inflation rate were onion price, non-subsidized fuel price, and construction workers' wages, which saw an increase in November 2018, he noted. Based on groups of spending, transportation, communication, and financial services recorded the highest inflation of 0.56 percent, with healthcare trailing behind in the second place, at 0.36 percent.

Housing, water, electricity, gas, and fuel contributed 0.25 percent; foodstuffs contributed 0.24 percent; garments contributed 0.23 percent; and processed foods, beverages, cigarettes, and tobacco contributed 0.20 percent to the inflation rate.

"Foodstuffs saw the lowest inflation as the prices of some foodstuffs, including red chilies, purebred chicken meat, fruits, and cooking oil, declined and contributed to deflation," he remarked.

Meanwhile, education, recreation, and sports contributed 0.05 percent to the inflation rate in November 2018, he added. Suhariyanto revealed that core inflation rate was recorded at 0.22 percent, with administered prices and volatile food prices rising 0.52 percent and 0.23 percent, respectively.

The November 2018 inflation brought the calendar inflation to 2.5 percent and year-on-year inflation to 3.23 percent. According to the BPS, 70 out of 82 cities surveyed for consumer price index recorded inflation and 12 cities saw deflation in November 2018, with the highest inflation of 2.5 percent recorded in Merauke and the lowest inflation of 0.01 percent recorded in Balikapan.

The highest deflation of 0.64 percent was recorded in Medan, and the lowest deflation of 0.01 percent was recorded in Pematangsiantar and Pangkalpinang.
