REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- Deputy Chairperson of the House Commission IX, Ermalena, believes that Saudi Arabia has violated the 1961 Vienna Convention by executing female migrant worker, Tuty Tursilawati, without notifying the Indonesian government. Tuty had been jailed for eight years before executed by Saudi government on Monday.
"The Saudi Arabian government has clearly violated the obligation to give notice and consular access," Ermalena stated, on Wednesday.
She noted that the government of Saudi Arabia should have given the information to Indonesia regarding Tursilawati's execution. Therefore, her Commisson will call for the details on the last attempts made by the government against Indonesian citizens who have problems abroad.
The commision will give question and seek an explanation from the Ministry of Manpower and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs on the issue. "This incident has created concern among us. We have conveyed our deepest condolences to the family," he explained.
This female migrant worker from Majalengka was actually among a group of Indonesian citizens who were executed by the government of Saudi Arabia after being sentenced to death by the court.
