REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA — A vice presidential candidate of presidential candidate President Joko Widodo (Jokowi), KH Ma’ruf Amin commented on Indonesia’s blind judo athlete Miftahul Jannah disqualification from the competition in 2018 Asian Para Games. He explained that there were rules that should be followed in the competition.
"So I'm not in a position to say anything, unless there are no regulation,” said Kiai Ma’ruf on Tuesday (Oct 9).
According to Kiai Ma’ruf, athletes who plan to take part in the competition were certainly be binded to rules. Athletes must follow all the regulations that have been arranged.

Earlier, MUI deputy chairman Zainut Tauhid Saadi said the disqualification over Miftahul should not happened. He said there should be consideration to respect human rights for judo athletes who wants to carry out their religious beliefs.
"The person in charge of the 2018 Asian Para Games judo match should be able to communicate this with those who make regulations so that they can revise the rules that are discriminatory and not in accordance with the spirit of respect for human rights," Zainut explained.
Miftahul was not allowed to compete in 2018 Asian Para Games on Monday (Oct 8), after she refused to take off her hijab. A head cover is prohibited to wear during competition, according to International Judo Federation (IJF).
