REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA — United Development Party (PPP) chairman M. Romahurmuziy or often called Romi asserted all of his party legislative candidates were obliged to win incumbent President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) - KH Ma’ruf Amin pair in 2019 presidential election. According to him, all lawmaker candidates should not only focused on winning legislative election, but also must invite PPP supporters to back the pair number 01.

However, Romi admitted parts of PPP grassroots did not lend their support to Jokowi-Ma'ruf pair. It was described in the result of Political Indicator survey.

The survey said PPP supporters were not solid in the field. Around 48.9 percent of supporters choosing Jokowi - Kiai Ma'ruf, while the other 44.4 percent would vote for Prabowo Subianto - Sandiaga Salahuddin Uno.

Romi said PPP who supported Prabowo in presidential election 2014 has homework to get more votes for Jokowi. According to him, the number of PPP bases that did not yet support Jokowi has been minimized.

He revealed PPP has not been able to grab votes for Jokowi only in West Sumatra, West Java, Madura, and "Tapal Kuda (horseshoe)" areas, namely Banyuwangi, Jember, Situbondo.

“The others such as West Nusa Tenggara and Aceh have turned to back Jokowi, also in Banten, especially after Kiai Ma'ruf emerged,” said Romi.

PPP cadres would be in the front line in socializing Jokowi's success, Romi said. In addition, PPP would also socialized Kiai Ma’ruf as Jokowi’s running mate.

“For PPP, it seems more profitable to put forward Kiai Ma’ruf as Jokowi’s running mate,” Romi added.
