REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- Incumbent President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) has started to continue his tradition in distributing bicycles to winners of his quiz usually held during meetings with people. Jokowi explained General Election Commission (KPU) has given a green light for him to continue giving gift during campaign period.

"I have asked KPU and they say it's ok," he said in Cimanggis, Depok, West Java.

Two people in Cimanggis, Depok, West Java won the president's quiz. Jokowi promised them bicycle.

"I did not bring it now, but it will be sent tomorrow morning," Jokowi said.

In a separate place, Chairman of General Election Commission (KPU) Arief Budiman said distribution of bicycles by Jokowi could not be said as money politics in presidential election 2019. He explained that it could be justified as long as it was not related to campaign.

According to Arief, it was no ordinary to give prizes in some events attended by the president, including in seminars. It usually done to appreciate the guests.

"No problem if it was done as president's working visit," Arief stated in CSIS office, Jakarta, on Thursday (Sept 27).

Earlier this week, Jokowi stopped the tradition as the election campaign has begun. During land certificate distribution in Cibinong, West Java and South Tangerang, he made a quiz without offering any prize. No one came up to answer his question.
