Police deploys 1,000 personnels to secure KPU

KPU to announce permanent candidate list and determine presidential pair candidates.

REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA — Central Jakarta Metro Police along with National Police control unit (Sabhara) and National Police Mobile Brigade (Brimob) guard around General Election Commission (KPU) building on Thursday (Sept 20). The officers carried out strict safeguard to anticipate unwanted events during determination of permanent candidate list (DCT).

Total personnel deployed is estimated about 1,000 people. “They are from Central Jakarta police, Sabhara, and Brimob. Also for traffic flow (deployment of police officers) is situational,” said Jakarta Police spokesman Argo Yuwono on Thursday (Sept 20).

According to Argo, police had discussed security issues on the event since a few days ago. Police also coordinated with KPU, because on the same day there would be the determination of 2019 presidential and vice presidential candidates.

Earlier, KPU commissioner Hasyim Asyari asserted Permanent Candidate List 2019 election will be announced this week. KPU ensured that Supreme Court (MA) rulling did not affect the schedule for determining the candidates.

Based on commission regulation (PKPU) No. 5/2018 on  the stages, programs and schedules of 2019 election, DCT to be announced on Thursday (Sept 20). According to Hasyim, KPU tried to comply with the schedule.

"Until now, there has been no change in the schedule for determining DCT, as it set on Sept 20,” Hasyim said.
