REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA — Indonesian Working Coalition was still waiting for incumbent President Joko Widodo's decision on the figure to lead the government camp's winning team. Jokowi was scheduled to announce the chairman of his winning team on September 7.
"We shall wait. What matter most is to find the best," secretary general of Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle (PDIP), Hasto Kristiyanto at Winning Camp of Jokowi-KH Ma'ruf Amin in Cemara 19 Post in Menteng, Central Jakarta, on Tuesday (Sept 4).
Hasto explained the announcement of head of winning team had to be in September 7 since KIK has to form campaign team in provinces. So far, Indonesia Asian Games 2018 Organizing Committee (INASGOC) chairman Erick Thohir and Najwa Shihab were among top list. According to Hasto, Erick was nominated because of his success in leading Asian Games 2018.
Earlier, United Development Party (PPP) secretary general Asrul Sani said the chairman of winning team for Jokowi-Kiai Ma’ruf to be announced this week. He stressed that Indonesia Work Coalition (KIK) was still awaiting Jokowi’s return from his working visit to Lombok, West Nusa Tenggara.
“Yes, as soon as possible it will be announced. We are waiting for Mr Jokowi return from West Nusa Tenggara. The schedule was on September 7,” said Asrul on Monday (Sept 3).
According to Asrul, each coalition party is still waiting for Jokowi’s decision. However, based on some aspirations, the chairman of the winning team tended to be young and popular, in order to embrace the millennials.
So far, KIK, together with Jokowi and Kiai Ma’ruf have pocketed several names. They consisted people with various backgrounds such as professionals, former heads of state institutions to former ministers.
Meanwhile, KIK planned to hold another meeting on Tuesday (Sept 4) evening at Cemara 19 Post. Asrul said they will discuss the extent of the preparation of the campaign team from the central, provincial and district / city levels. Each party begins to prepare the internal ranks to be able to win Jokowi-Kiai Ma'ruf.
Jokowi officially declared Kiai Ma’ruf who is Indonesian Ulema Council (MUI) chairman and also Nahdlatul Ulama (NU) supreme leader as his presidential candidate on last August 9. He said they both fulfilled the concept of nationalist-religious. The pair was supported by nine political parties, namely Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle (PDI-P), Nasdem Party, Golkar Party, PPP, PKB Perindo, PSI, Hanura Party, and PKPI.
