REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- KH Ma'ruf Amin claimed prominent preacher ustaz Yusuf Mansur supported him in presidential election 2019. The incumbent President Joko Widodo's running mate said he has met with ustaz Yusuf and in the meeting, ustaz Yusuf stated his support to him.

According to Kiai Ma'ruf, ustaz Yusuf considered him as his teacher. "Because I am his teacher, so he wants to join me," Kiai Ma'ruf said at Vice Presidential Palace, Jakarta, on Friday (August 31).

However, ustaz Yusuf would not be in the campaign team of incumbent President Joko Widodo-Kiai Ma'ruf.

Meanwhile, ustaz Yusuf claimed that he has not heard about the rumour. However, he said he would join anything and be happy about it.

According to ustaz Yusuf, he has proximity both to Kiai Ma'ruf and vice presidential candidate of the opposition camp Sandiaga Uno. “I still want to be a preacher and even ulema someday,” said Yusuf at At-Taqwa Mosque, Kebayoran Baru, Jakarta, on Friday (August 31).

Ustaz Yusuf said he wanted to be in the middle. He assessed it was necessary to cool down the atmosphere.

"I have not decided to join any camp. God willing, I choose to be in the middle, to bring peace and to pray fo all," he said.
