REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- Chairman of the DKI Jakarta branch of Gerindra Party Muhammad Taufik said here on Tuesday that the four political parties --Gerindra Party, Prosperous Justice Party (PKS), National Mandate Party (PAN), and Democratic Party-- leaders would meet again to agree on the name of the vice president candidate who will run in the presidential election 2019 with Gerindra Party chief patron Prabowo Subianto. Taufik said the meeting would be held today, Wednesday (Aug 8).
However, Taufik was reluctant to mention the place of the meeting. He expected the meeting between four parties will agree on one of two names of Prabowo’s running mate candidates.
Taufik said once the name of vice presidential candidate agreed, the coalition will declare it on Thursday (Aug 9). Prabowo and his running mate was scheduled to register to General Election Commission (KPU) on the next day.
Earlier, Gerindra Party secretary general Ahmad Muzani said two names available left as Prabowo's running mate. However, the names would be discussed again with coalition political parties.
Muzani was reluctant to mention the names as it was still being discussed by the coalition. His party also would continue to discuss with parties outside the coalition to provide support. Possibly, the decision related to vice president candidate would be reached at the end of the registration period.
A number of names were mentioned as strong Prabowo’s running mate candidates, including Democratic Party executive Agus Harimurti Yudhoyono (AHY), PAN chairman Zulkifli Hasan. There were also two names recommended by National Movement of Fatwa Guards (GNPF), namely Ustaz Abdul Somad Batubara and PKS Syura (Advisory) Council chairman Salim Segaf Al-Jufri.
Democratic Party chairman Roy Suryo hinted that Prabowo’s running mate has A initials, namely AHY, Anies Baswedan, Abdul Somad and Al-Jufri (Salim Segaf). Meawnhile President Joko Widodo (Jokowi)’s running mate has M initials. Muhaimin Iskandar and Mahfud MD were among the names of Jokowi's potential running mates.
“If Jokowi’s running mate has M initials, Prabowo has A initials,” Roy added.
