REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, SABANG -- Five Russian nationals who worked as ship crew on board a Togo-flagged fishing vessel STS-50 would be deported to their country. Sabang's court in Aceh province has issued a verdict on them for violating Indonesia's Exclusive Economic Zone (EEZ).

The five Russian crew are identified as Michenckov Boris (60); Burykin Aleksandr (54); Ivanushkin Vadim (54); Mukhin Sergie (47); and Aliev Muslim (57). They will be deported on Wednesday, according to Sabang Immigration Office.

"We are still preparing their documents, while waiting for their tickets from the Russian Embassy in Jakarta," Head of Sabang Immigration Office Anton Helistiawan noted here on Tuesday.

Apart from the five crew, the Sabang's Court had given a verdict to STS-50's captain Matveev Aleksandr (56), also a Russian national, to pay a fine of Rp200 million (about US$14 thousands) or face imprisonment for four months for violating the fisheries law in the Indonesian water territory. Aleksandr failed to show the legal document used as a permit to operate the fishing vessel in the Indonesia's EEZ.

The court also seized the fishing vessel STS-50 as evidence. Other evidence consist of 150 traps and guiding-barriers and 600 gill nets on board.

The Russian captain and his five ships crew were also wanted by the International Police (Interpol). Hence, the Indonesian authority is obligated to deport them to their origin country, according to Indonesia's Law Number 6/2011 about Immigration.

Earlier, the immigration office had deported other four foreigners of STS-50's ship crew, comprising of two Ukraine nationals and two Russians. They were also Interpol's fugitives.

On April 6, the Indonesian Navy seized fishing vessel STS-50 and another undocumented vessel IMO-8514772 on Indonesia EEZ in Sabang's water. During the seizure, the navy also arrested 30 ships crew on board, comprising 20 Indonesian citizens, 8 Russians, and 2 Ukrainians.
