REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, POSO -- Vice President Jusuf Kalla inspected the Poso Peaker hydro power plant (PLTA) in Poso district, Central Sulawesi province, on Wednesday. The PLTA is a combination of the PLTA Poso, with a capacity of 3x65 MW; PLTA Poso Extension 1, with a capacity of 4x30 MW; and PLTA Poso Extension 2, with a capacity of 4x50 MW.

"We hope the PLTA Poso would be part of the effort to develop new and renewable energy, as stated in the power supply plan (RPTUL) of state electricity firm PT PLN Persero from 2018 to 2027," Director General of New and Renewable Energy and Energy Conservation of the Energy and Mineral Resources Ministry, Rida Mulyana, stated.

The three PLTAs are expected to serve as a 'peaker' power plant, with a combined capacity of 515 MW. During the peak load time, from 05.00 p.m. to 10.00 p.m., the PLTA will have an Exclusive Committed Energy of 1,669 GWh per year.

It will serve as a 'peaker' power plant, which will operate during high demand for electrical power. It also relies on Lake Poso for its water supplies, which enables it to operate fully throughout the year.

It will be built in stages and will start its commercial operation in 2021. Independent Power Producers (IPP), which manages the PLTA Poso for 30 years under a build, own, operate and transfer (BOOT) scheme, will sell electrical power at US$8,400/kWh.

The project is expected to cost $820.1 million and employ 1,087 people.
