REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) has called on regional heads to facilitate investors, who will invest in export-oriented and import-substitution sectors. He explained that the current account balance and Indonesia trade balance are still in deficit.

"The problem is with investment," President Jokowi remarked here on Thursday.

Jokowi made the statement while opening the 2018 National Coordination Meeting of Inflation Control themed, "Accelerating Infrastructure Development to Realize Price Stability and Inclusive Economic Growth."

Numerous Working Cabinet ministers, heads of Bank Indonesia, and several regional heads attended the meeting.

Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs Darmin Nasution as chairman of the Central Inflation Control Team; Coordinating Minister for Maritime Affairs Luhut Binsar Panjaitan, and Home Affairs Minister Tjahjo Kumolo were also present on the occasion.

President Jokowi has suggested that regional heads should not engage in lengthy discussions concerning export-oriented investment and import substitution.

"The heads of regions should not ask all kinds of questions to investors keen on investing in the region but instead offer them ease to invest," Jokowi remarked.

The president believes that if Indonesia has surplus balance of transactions and trade balance, then the country will remain unaffected in the face of a global turmoil.

The president said global uncertainty is a big problem facing Indonesia today. Currently, the global economy is in the process of transitioning to new normal conditions.

"Hence, right preparations and precautionary measures are key to responding to any changes," President Jokowi added.
