REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- Former spokesman of Free Aceh Movement (GAM) Australia, Sufaini Usman Syekhy, has demanded anti-graft agency KPK to release Aceh governor Irwandi Yusuf. He claimed that KPK has no evidence to arrest him.
"We have asked KPK to immediately release Irwandi. Unless it is done it may potentially cause conflict in Aceh," he said in a press statement received here on Monday.
Sufaini also urged KPK to immediately clarify that what KPK has done on Irwandi was not part of an impromptu operation as no item of corruption evidence has been confiscated directly from Irwandi by KPK. "Pak (Mr) Irwandi was reported as having been caught in an operation to catch suspects red-handed (OTT) while in fact he was not," he said.

Coordinator for United Aceh Community Coalition (KMBA) Fahmi Nuzula meanwhile has threatened to shut down centers of Aceh administrations unless Irwandi is released. "I appeal to acting governor as well as district heads across Aceh to not go to the office," he said.
Sufaini and Fahmi both criticized KPK for acting overly towards Irwandi. Fahmi said KMAB would stage a massive demonstration to demand KPK to release Irwandi, which will be done in the next few days. "We will mobilize people to carry put huge demonstration," he said.
Before being elected as Aceh governor Irwandi Yusuf was a GAM propaganda staff. He is now also chief of Partai Nation Aceh (PNA) which is one of the biggest local political parties in Aceh.
