Jakarta firefighter dies while on duty

A firefighter died while trying to put out a fire at material warehouse in N Jakarta.

REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- A firefighter died after experiencing tightness in his chest, after putting out a fire at a material warehouse in Sunter, North Jakarta. Chief of North Jakarta Fire Department, Satriadi Gunawan, revealed that his personnel responded to a fire alarm at 4 a.m. and around 6:30 a.m., when the late Haeruddin experienced tightness in his chest.

"He was then taken to Koja hospital in an ambulance. While on the way, the deceased had responded when asked where he lived," he noted.

As they got to the hospital, he was immediately treated and had a pacemaker installed. But he did not survive, he revealed.

"He was 51 years old," Gunawan added.

Haeruddin was the head of PELIA IIIA Tanjung Priok and had spent 23 years working as a fire department officer since becoming an employee at the DKI Jakarta provincial government.
