Megawati met with Mahathir at a closed-door meeting for about 30 minutes at the Grand Hyatt Hotel in Jakarta. Mahathir is on a state visit in Indonesia from June 28 to 29, 2018.

They also discussed the prospect of cooperating in the handling of regional political strategic matters among Indonesia, Malaysia, Singapore, and Thailand, Hasto said.
At the meeting, Megawati said it was Mahathir's joking tone that helped him gain re-election as Malaysia's prime minister. "I also have the responsibility to make sure that Jokowi wins in the presidential elections in 2019," Hasto, who was accompanied by Megawati, remarked.
At the brief meeting, Megawati also had the opportunity to give Mahathir a 'salak' Bali fruit, which according to Hasto is one of the favorite fruits of Megawati and Mahathir.
Hasto added that Megawati often held bilateral meetings with Malaysian government officials while serving as President. "The meeting had a very familiar feeling to it," Hasto said.
