Mahathir to visit Indonesia on Thursday

REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- Prime Minister of Malaysia, Mahathir Mohamad, will conduct an official visit to Indonesia on Thursday and Friday (June 28 and 29, 2018). The event will be the first bilateral visit of Mahathir after he was sworn in as the prime minister of Malaysia on May 10, 2018, as stated by the press release of Malaysian Embassy received here on Wednesday.

Mahathir is scheduled to meet Indonesian President Joko Widodo and the Malaysian community in Indonesia.

This visit is expected to strengthen the bilateral relations and cooperation between Indonesia and Malaysia.

The prime minister will also convey Malaysia's new policies and the government's stance on several mutual concerning issues. The leaders will also discuss several regional and global issues.

Indonesia is a neighboring country and an important partner of Malaysia.

The total trade value of both countries increased 22 percent to US$16.89 billion in 2017 compared to 2016. Malaysia is the seventh largest trade partner of Indonesia at the global level.
