REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- Jakarta Deputy Governor Wakil Sandiaga Uno revealed the event "For You Indonesia" held by Forum untuk Indonesia (Forum for Indonesia) in Monas area, Central Jakarta, on Saturday (April 28) has claimed two lives. The two dead victims were Pademangan, West Jakarta citizens.

"They were identified as MJ (12 yo) and R (10 yo)," Sandiaga said at City Hall on Monday (April 30) night.

According to Sandi, the two victims lost their lives because of jostling. He said the incidents should be further investigated to reveal the exact cause of death.

"We're coordinating with committee of the event to follow up their responsibility on the incidents. We deplored the incidents," Sandi said.

On the other hand, Sandi noticed "For You Indonesia" event has political element. City officials have reported that there was a specific dress code for the mass. "There was an obligation to wear clothing with specific color and attribute which affiliate to a political party," he said.

Sandiaga explained the committee has made several violations. Firstly, the committee used official logo of Jakarta Provincial Government without permission. He asserted that the event was not provincial government's program.

Secondly, the implementation ot the event was not in accordance with the initial agreement. From the beginning, Jakarta Tourism Department and Culture and head of Monas Infrastructure Unit did not approve the distribution of sembako (basic needs) parcels. However, Forum Untukmu Indonesia has been defiant.

Thirdly, the committee has been irresponsible in maintaining sanitation of Monas area. Fourthly, they did not care for the convenience of the visitors and did not anticipate the mass flocking into the area. "And, they also did not participate actively in maintaining order," he deplored.
