REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, SINGAPORE -- Myanmar government has invited Indonesian Coordinating Minister for Political, Legal and Security Affairs Wiranto to meet State Counsellor Aung San Suu Kyi in Myanmar. The Myanmar defense minister extended the invitation to Wiranto on the sidelines of the 32nd ASEAN Summit held in Singapore on Saturday.
"I have been invited to meet Aung San Suu Kyi in Myanmar," Wiranto said.
He said the invitation is something normal now that Indonesia has taken active part in settling the Rohingya conflict including the repatriation of Rohingya refugees from Bangladesh to Myanmar's Rakhine state.
Indonesia has actively helped the Rohingya refugees. In fact, President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) visited Rohingya refugee camps in Bangladesh when he visited the South Asian country a few months ago, he said.
"Indonesia is performing the so-called fourth state mission to maintain global peace and order so the president visited there. As a minister overseeing political, legal and security affairs, I am assigned to spell out the spirit of the president to help resolve the humanitarian problem in Rakhine state soon," he said.
He said Myanmar has invited him because it wants Indonesia to share its experience in resolving internal problems without causing a fatal consequence.
