North Sulawesi exports wooden-stilt houses to Maldives

Buyers from Maldives often bring artisans from North Sulawesi to build stilt houses.

REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, MANADO -- North Sulawesi Provincial Government exported three units of wooden-stilt houses to Maldives. The traditional house was requested by consumers in the South Asian island country.

North Sulawersi exports three units of wooden-stilt houses and it can make Indonesias foreign exchange, amounted 5,252 US dollars, said North Sulawesi Inddustry and Trade Office head, Jenny Karouw on Wednesday (April 25).

Jenny said wooden-stilt houses exported to Maldives sometimes have the same model with original Minahasa style culture. However, it could also be customized, depends on request from customers.

"Usually buyers from Maldives bring artisans from North Sulawesi to build wooden-stilt houses in their country," Jenny explained.

Jenny expected this export opportunity can be used by many people in North Sulawesi, especially for the stage house craftsman in Tomohon.

Maldives is located in the Indian Ocean, situated in the Arabian Sea. It lies southwest of Sri Lanka and India.

Maldives consists of coral islands that surrounds a lagoon in the Indian Ocean. This country has the smallest population and area in Asia and economic situation of Maldives depends on two main sectors, tourism and fisheries.
