No Indonesian reported among victims of Toronto van attack

REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- The Indonesian Ministry of Foreign Affairs on Tuesday confirmed that no report had been received of any Indonesian among the victims after a van ploughed into pedestrians in Toronto, Canada. The media reported that at least 10 people were killed and 15 injured after they were hit by a rental van driven along a sidewalk in Toronto for around two kilometers.

"The Indonesian Consulate General in Toronto continues to coordinate with the local authority, and as of today, no report was received of Indonesians among the victims," the ministry tweeted here on Tuesday.

The incident took place on Monday at about 1:30 p.m. local time at a busy intersection in the city's north. Most victims were yet to be identified.

Alek Manassian, 25, the driver, was taken into custody after being arrested by a local police officer.

Data from the Indonesian Ministry of Foreign Affairs showed that 3,088 Indonesians live in Toronto.
