REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- The Crime Division of Indonesian Police has arrested two human trafficking suspects. They were involved in transporting 10 migrant workers to Malaysia, the general crime director, Brig. Pol. Herry Rudolf Nahak, said here on Monday.

The two suspects include Joko Eko Supriyanto, the president director of the worker agent PT Darussalam Samudra Jaya, and Kade Aridana or Kadek. Nahak stated that Supriyanto had served as an agent to transport the "migrant workers" to Malaysia, while Kadek was the recruiter.

The suspects promised jobs for the 10 victims at a Malaysia-based glove company, with a salary of RM74 per day, or Rp7 million per month.

The police disclosed that the agent had trafficked the victims using a tourist visa instead of a working visa.

"The agent (Supriyanto) also failed to show his permit from the Manpower Ministry as well as other documents, such as working contracts and job orders from the employer," Nahak noted.

The victims revealed that after they had arrived and had started working in Malaysia, they were only paid Rp1.1 million per month, or RM380, while the other seven workers revealed that they were not paid for a month.

"For a month, they had worked without receiving any salaries (from the factory)," Nahak explained.

These victims admitted that besides being forced to work for more than12 hours a day, they had also been forced to stay at a dorm without ventilation.

Nahak stated that the suspects will be charged with imprisonment and penalty in accordance with the Article 4 of the Law No.21 Year 2007 on the Human Trafficking, and/or the Article 102 No.1 (b) of the Law No.39 Year 2004 on the Migrant Workers¿ Placement and Protection Overseas.
