REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- Vice President Jusuf Kalla (JK) said six of ten ministers had successfully been treated by Dr Terawan Adi Putranto. The doctor is a radiologist who modified Digital Subtraction Angiography (DSA) into a stroke intervention.

"Yes we had a limited cabinet meeting attended by 10 ministers. I asked, how many have been treated by Terawan and there are six of the 10 ministers that have been treated, including me," said Jusuf Kalla said after attending the handover of aid at the Indonesian Red Cross (PMI) Headquarters in Jakarta on Friday.

Kalla claimed the methods used in medical treatment by Terawan have many benefits. He considered the decision of the Indonesian Medical Association (IDI) to suspend Terawan from IDI membership for 12 months needs to be reviewed.

"I think a lot of people have received benefits. Pak (Mr) Try (Sutrisno/former vice president) is among those people who have been treated by Mr. Terawan," he added.

Therefore, the Vice President asked IDI to review the suspension of Terawan as a member of the Indonesian medical association.

"Not that way, it's better for the case to be well studied in the internal lab," he said.

Maj. Gen Dr. Terawan Agus Putranto was sanctioned with a temporary discharge as a member of IDI by the IDI Medical Ethics Committee (MKEK). He allegedly committed a violation of medical ethics by applying the method of Digital Subtraction Angiography (DSA), also known as 'brainwash' or 'brain flushing'.

Terawan is considered not to have been certified to treat patients who suffered from strokes or symptoms of strokes, as he is a specialist in radiology, not a specialist in neurological diseases.

However, a number of Terawan's patients claimed the methods developed by the director of RSPAD Gatot Subroto Army Hospital proved to have successfully treated them. Among of the patients were political figures in the country, including former Vice President Try Sutrisno, Vice President Jusuf Kalla, former chairman of Golkar Party Aburizal Bakrie, leader of the Greater Indonesian Movement Party Prabowo Subianto and former chairman of the Constitutional Court (MK) Mahfud MD.
