REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- Indonesia has sought stronger support for the peace process in Palestine during a meeting of the Non-Aligned Movement (NAM) Ministerial Committee on Palestine held in Baku, Azerbaijan, on Thursday. Indonesia also urged strong pressure against Israel.
"Strong support is needed for the Palestinian people and peace process, and strong pressure should be applied on Israel," Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Indonesia A.M. Fachir noted during the meeting in Baku according to a press release on Friday.
Deputy Foreign Minister Fachir also called on member states of the NAM and international community to give recognition to the state of Palestine.
Palestine can also be supported by inviting the state to join as a member of international organizations or treaties as well as by providing training in several fields and economic assistance to the people of Palestine, Fachir explained.

Meanwhile, Fachir also highlighted the need for the international community to apply strong pressure on Israel by condemning the use of excessive force by its forces.
International pressure should be based on the credible international process that aims to end Israeli occupation in Palestine and to carve a path for the realization of a two-state solution in Palestine that is in accordance with UN General Assembly Resolution No. 66/225 and UN Security Council Resolution No. 2334.
The meeting of the NAM Ministerial Committee on Palestine was held on the sidelines of the NAM ministers' meeting that was held in Azerbaijan on Apr 5-6.
The Mid-Term Ministerial Conference of the NAM will offer a key opportunity to NAM member states, observer states, organizations, and guest countries to get together and to address the changing international security situation as well as to exchange views on ways to respond effectively to challenges faced by the international community.
