REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- Indonesian 6th President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono (SBY) gave moral support to doctor Terawan Agus Putranto. He said the head of Army hospital (RSPAD) has helped many people by performing modified Digital Substraction Angiogram (DSA). Although it was not a mainstraim method, modified DSA has cured many of Terawan's patients.

"I have witness that thousands of people have been saved by doctor Terawan despite of his method that becames a polemic," SBY said in a video statement received by Republika.co.id on Thursday (April 5).

SBY also said Terawan has healed his best friend who is a prime minister. He did not explain the identity of the prime minister.

"My best friend often complain about his headache. He has visited two countries to undergo medical treatment, but there was no result until he met Terawan," SBY added.

Earlier, Council Code of Medical Ethics (MKEK) was said to have suspended Terawan temporarily from his job as a medical doctor. The reasons behind the decision due to a number of violation of ethics.

Terawan who is a radiologist has performed a modified Digital Subraction Angiography (DSA) as stroke intervention. The method was popular with the term brain washing or brain flushing.

A number of public figures have defended Terawan by claiming they experienced a significant improvement after receiving the treatment. However, his method was considered unusual by Indonesian doctors.

SBY expected MKEK, Indonesian Medical Association (IDI), and Terawan could solve the problem together. In addition, he also asked government to not let the problem drag on.
