Jokowi discusses economic ties with new ambassadors

Jokowi and 11 foreign ambassadors discuss efforts to step up economic relations.

REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) and 11 foreign ambassadors, who just submitted their letters of credential to the Indonesian head of state, have discussed efforts to step up economic relations. Jokowi has discussed efforts to achieve the target of increasing the bilateral trade value from US$3 billion to $5 billion with Russian Ambassador, Lyudmila Georgievna Vorobieva.

Foreign Affairs Minister Retno LP Marsudi told the press about the plan, after accompanying Jokowi, here, on Wednesday.

Meanwhile, Jokowi and Australian Ambassador, Gary Francis Quinlan, spoke about the Indonesia-Australia Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (CEPA). He also mentioned about his invitation to Australian prime minister for Our Ocean Conference to be held in October 2018 in Bali.

Jokowi also discussed efforts to strengthen bilateral cooperation in the industrial field with South Korean Ambassador to Indonesia, Kim Chang-beom. While visiting Indonesia, the South Korean president upgraded the two countries' Strategic Partnership into Special Strategic Partnership focusing on the industrialization acceleration, according to Marsudi.

Jokowi earlier received the credentials of the 11 Ambassadors Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary (LBBP) at the Merdeka Palace.

The 11 ambassadors were Ambassador of the Kingdom of Bahrain to Indonesia Mohamed Ghassan Mohamed Adnan Shaikho, South Korean Ambassador to Indonesia Kim Chang-beom, Georgian Ambassador to Indonesia Irakli Asashvili, Fiji's Ambassador to Indonesia Seleima Dikawakawayali Veisamasama, and Polish Ambassador to Indonesia Beata Stoczynska.

In addition, other ambassadors, who also attended the ceremony, were Russian Federation's Ambassador to Indonesia Lyudmila Georgievna Vorobieva, Australian Ambassador to Indonesia Gary Francis Quinlan, Uganda's Ambassador to Indonesia Dorothy Samali Hyuha, Gambian Ambassador to Indonesia Ramzia Diab Ghanim, Latvian Ambassador to Indonesia Normans Penke, and Ivory Coast's Ambassador to Indonesia Jeanne Guehe.
