President Jokowi submits sole BI governor candidate

REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) confirmed that he would only submitted one name as the candidate for Bank Indonesia (BI) Governor period 2018 - 2023. He proposesd Perry Warjiyo as sole candidate.

"We have sent one name only, Mr Perry Warjiyo to House of Representatives (DPR)," said Jokowi on Tuesday (Feb 27).

Jokowi said Perry is the most senior BI deputy governor and he has mastered about monetary matters. He acknowledged Perry's experience and track record.

"We see all, also from his achievements and his experience on the field. He already understood many things about monetary and BI as our central bank policies, Jokowi added.

Jokowi has no doubt that Perry could pass fit and proper test that will be held by House of Representatives. Perry has served as BI deputy governor since April 2013. He started his career at BI since 1984 and has served in several important positions, such as governor assistant for the formulation of monetary, macroprudential and international BI policy.

In addition, Perry became executive director of BI's department of economic research and monetary policy. He also served as Director of the International Monetary Fund (IMF), represents 13 member countries of the South-East Asia Voting Group.
