MUI lauds Pharos decision to withdraw Viostin DS from market

Pharos also stops the production of Viostin DS.

REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- Indonesian Council of Ulema (MUI) appreciated the decision from PT Pharos Indonesia to withdraw food supplements Viostin DS throughout Indonesia markets. PT Pharos also has stopped the manufacturing of Viostin DS products for public convinience after a batch of its product contaminated by pig DNA.

"I think PT Pharos has did the right decision to withdraw all their products, Viostin DS from markets throughout Indonesia and we really appreciate it," said MUI chairman Kiai Ma'ruf Amin on Thursday (Feb 8).

Kiai Ma'ruf monitored the issue and had heard information from many parties related to Viostin DS case. According to him, PT Pharos as the producer from the product has taken right step in addressing the issue.

Earlier, Management PT Pharos Indonesia  came to KIai Ma'ruf residence, In the meeting, the company clarified that Viostin DS was made using raw materials from cows and did not contain pork.

The raw material for Viostin DS, chondroitin sulfate, was supplied from overseas suppliers who have halal certification from Halal Certification Services / HCS. This institution itself has entered the list of overseas halal certification agencies recognized by the MUI.

Furthermore, PT Pharos explained after receiving information from Food and Drug Monitoring Agency (BPOM) that the Viostin DS product in certain batches, polluted by pork DNA, they immediately withdraws the entire product, stop the sale, and stop the production. The effort was done as a form of corporate concern to consumers.

People is asked to not to be restless in responding the issue because Viostin DS products do not use raw materials from pig. Director of Corporate Communications of PT Pharos Indonesia, Ida Nurtika conveyed the authority of halal and haram products is the authority of MUI, which has advised the producer to re-test certain raw materials of batches in LPPOM MUI.

A total of 300,000 boxes or as heavy as 30 tons of Visotin DS products have also been destroyed in an industrial waste management company at PT Prasadha Pamunah Industrial Waste (PPLi), Nambo, Bogor, West Java on Thursday (Feb 8) afternoon. Destruction is done by solidification / stabilization method to then dumped in land timbus (landfill).

"In the next three months, we expect it has finished overall," Ida added.
