REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- The Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) is disappointed with the Constitutional Court (MK)'s decision rejecting a request for a judicial review of the legislative institution law regarding the House of Representatives' rights of inquiry into the anti-graft body. Nevertheless, KPK official said they respects the decision.

"We are rather disappointed with the decision because the request for a judicial review of the law is rejected," KPK Deputy Chairman Laode Muhammad Syarif said at the MK building here on Thursday.

In its verdict, the MK decided to reject the request for a judicial review of the law.

According to the MK, although the KPK is a supporting and independent institution it belongs to executive body because it performs duties and authority as an executive institution.

Hence, the House of Representatives has the right to ask for accountability from the KPK in the way the anti-graft body accounts for its duties to the public, the constitutional justices said.

"This is a decision against which we cannot appeal. This decision is final and binding in this country so the KPK respects it," Laode said.

Five of the nine constitutional justices favor the decision, while four other constitutional justices - Maria Farida Indrati, Saldi Isra, I Dewa Gede Palguna, and Suhartoyo - have dissenting opinion.
