REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- Indonesian Minister of Women's Empowerment and Child Protection Yohana Yembise stated that the sexual harassment perpetrator against patient in the Surabaya National Hospital must be sanctioned in accordance with existing laws and regulations.

"(The sanction) is to give deterrent effect against the perpetrator in order to prevent more casualties in the future," the minister said here on Friday.

Meanwhile, police personnel in Surabaya arrested the alleged sexual harassment perpetrator identified as Jun (a male nurse, 30 years of age) who worked at the Surabaya National Hospital.

Jun allegedly committed the sexual harassment against a patient identified as W (30), who was in anesthetic condition, after having a gynecological operation.

"We found the perpetrator at dawn, when he was staying in a hotel room in Surabaya, and we forced him to face the examination at the Surabaya police office," the Surabaya police chief, Senior Commissioner Rudi Setiawan, said on Friday.

Minister Yohana Yembise does not tolerate any form of violence, harassment, and discrimination, especially against women and children.

After being interrogated by the hospital management, the perpetrator then admitted to have committed his actions and offered apology to the victim. The hospital management has also dismissed the nurse from his job because he has violated the professional ethics.

Senior Commissioner Rudi Setiawan asserted that his side has not yet set Jun as a suspect. Until now, Jun is still declared as a witness.
