Minister to review preparations for LRT trains production

REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, MADIUN -- Coordinating Minister for Maritime Affairs Luhut Binsar Pandjaitan is scheduled to review preparations for the production of Light Rail Transit (LRT) trains in Madiun City, East Java, on Thursday.

The minister will conduct a working visit to state-owned train manufacturer PT Industri Kereta Api (Inka) in Madiun City that will produce trains for the Jakarta-Bogor-Depok-Bekasi (Jabodebek) LRT project.

"This afternoon, the senior minister plans to review PT Inka along with other ministers and leaders of high state institutions," Senior Management Secretary, Public Relations and CSR of PT Inka Cholik Mochamad Zam-Zam stated in Madiun on Thursday.

According to Zam-Zam, besides reviewing the capability and readiness of the railway production facility owned by PT Inka, the company will sign agreements and contracts with several partners during the visit.

PT Inka will sign the Jabodebek LRT procurement contract with PT KAI, the Indonesian railway company, and ink contracts on materials and railway components with PT Krakatau Steel, PT Barata Indonesia, PT Pindad, and PT Inti.

A cooperation agreement will also be signed between PT Inka and Human Resources Development Agency of the Ministry of Transportation and an agreement to increase the level of domestic content between PT Inka and small- and medium-sized firms that are the beneficiaries of the National Interest Account program.

PT Inka will also sign joint consultation and research agreements with Research, Technology and Higher Education Ministry, the Agency for Assessment and Application of Technology, and state colleges: ITB, ITS, UNS, and UGM.

Another agreement to be inked is on consultation and development advisory cooperation between PT Inka's workshop in Banyuwangi and BPKP, the government's development finance comptroller, of the East Java Representative.

In its release, Cholik explained that PT Inka is ready to produce the LRT Jabodebek and is one of the government's strategic projects being implemented to offer convenience and reduce the travel time.

For the LRT work that connects Jakarta with its satellite towns of Bogor, Depok, Bekasi, PT Inka has received financial support amounting to Rp4.050 trillion from three banking syndicates: PT BNI, PT SMI, and PT Bank Sumitomo Mitsui Indonesia.

"This Jabodebek LRT project is the second for PT Inka after it was awarded the contract for the LRT project in Palembang, South Sumatra, to serve as a mode of transportation for the 2018 Asian Games," he added.
