REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) has called on Muhammadiyah University and other universities across the country to help promote entrepreneurship.

The University of Muhammadiyah had played a strong role in the education sector, President Jokowi stated while delivering a general lecture at the university in Kupang, Monday.

"I am confident that Muhammadiyah, with its education system, remains a place to produce excellent young entrepreneurs with high social spirit," Jokowi was quoted as saying by Bey Machmudin, deputy in charge of protocol, the press, and media of the Presidential Secretariat, here, Tuesday.

The head of state expressed hope that Muhammadiyah University would develop an ecosystem to produce social entrepreneurs who not only calculate profits and losses but also improve the welfare of the public.

President Jokowi was accompanied by First Lady Iriana, Education and Culture Minister Muhadjir Effendy, Public Works and Public Housing Minister Basuki Hadimulyono, Chief of the Presidential Staff Teten Masduki, and East Nusa Tenggara Governor Frans Lebu Raya.

President Jokowi stayed overnight on Rote Island, East Nusa Tenggara (NTT), during a two-day working visit to the province on Monday and Tuesday.

The president and First Lady Iriana departed aboard Indonesia-1 presidential aircraft from the Halim Perdanakusuma Air Force Base, East Jakarta, on Monday morning.

NTT Governor Frans Lebu Raya believed that President Jokowi's sixth visit to the province during his three-year leadership term brings optimism for the provincial government and people to continue building the area.

"We are grateful for the several visits made by the president to NTT Province. Those visits certainly encourage us and instill a sense of optimism to continue to build this area," Raya noted during his speech on the sidelines of President Jokowi's visit to Kupang, NTT Province, on Monday.
